The Three Sisters Swamp is the remnant of an ancient Baldcypress forest along the Black River, some 10 miles north of Wilmington. The only way in is by boat, and navigating through the twisted channels and man-sized cypress knees in low water is more like caving than paddling. There are "hundreds" of millenial-aged trees here, making it the oldest remaining cypress forest in the world. It's a truly primeval place
